The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) Bicycle and Trails Plan was last updated as part of the 2030 Long Range Plan Update.  The WFRC Bicycle and Trails Plan consist of the urbanized areas included within portions of Weber, Davis and Salt Lake County.  The WFRC uses the AASHTO Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities, 1999, to define Bicycle and Trail types.  These include: Shared Use Path – Class 1, Signed Shared Roadway – Class 2, and Shared Roadway (No Bikeway Designation) – Class 3.  Click on map to view.

Current Updates:

The WFRC is currently updating the Bicycle and Trails Plan for Weber, Davis and Salt Lake Counties for the 2007-2030 Regional Transportation Plan.

WFRC has met with most of the Cities and the County in Salt Lake County.  The Bicycle and Trails Plan has been updated to reflect their most current Master Plans.  Click here to view the Salt Lake County update (link to map).

Davis County has developed a Trails Master Plan, and WFRC has incorporated the results of the Trails Master Plan into its plan.  WFRC has met with most of the Cities within Davis County and Davis County to update the on-street (Class 2 and 3) bicycle lanes.  Click here to view the Davis County update (link to map.)

WFRC will meet with the Cities and the County in Weber County in the Spring/Summer of 2006 to update the Bicycle and Trails map.  WFRC will also meet with Weber Pathways to coordinate Bicycle and Trails planning and mapping.

Bicycle Compatibility Index (BCI):

The Bicycle Compatibility Index (BCI) evaluates the capability of urban and suburban roadway sections to accommodate both motorists and bicyclists. The BCI methodology will allow practitioners to evaluate existing facilities and determine and possible improvements and to determine operational and geometric requirements for new facilities.

This report should be of interest to State and local bicycle coordinators, transportation engineers, and planners involved in the design of bicycle facilities within highway system.  For a copy of the BCI manual click the following picture:

WFRC is attempting to set up the BCI for Salt Lake, Davis and Weber Counties on the WFRC network.
