Purpose:
The Transportation Coordinating Committee (Trans Com) is a policy advisory committee of the Regional Council.  This committee is composed of elected officials and major transportation agency representatives, and serves as the forum for discussion of major transportation issues and policies.  Trans Com has responsibility for reviewing transportation planning policy and making policy recommendations to the WFRC related to the continuing transportation planning program in the Salt Lake-Ogden Metropolitan area.

 

Responsibilities: 

Trans Com provides policy recommendations to the Wasatch Front Regional Council for the region’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).  The TIP is a five-year capital improvement program of highway, transit, and other transportation improvements scheduled for the region using federal, state, and/or local funding.  For further information on the TIP, click here.

 

Membership:

Members of Trans Com are appointed as follows:

·          The WFRC appoints one member from each County Council of Governments who is also a member of the WFRC.

·          The Davis and Weber County Councils of Governments appoint one additional member each, and one staff representative.

·          The Salt Lake County Council of Governments appoints two additional members, and one staff representative.

·          The Utah State Transportation commission appoints two members of the State Transportation Commission

·          The Utah Department of Transportation appoints one representative from UDOT.

·          The Utah Transportation Authority Board of Trustees appoints two members of the UTA Board of Trustees.

·          The Utah Transit Authority appoints one representative from UTA.

·          The Utah Air Quality Board appoints one member from the Board, and a staff representative.

·          The Federal Highway Administration appoints the Division Administrator as a representative.

·          The WFRC may appoint up to four additional members of existing policy or advisory committees as members to represent aviation, trucking, railroad, and other interests as appropriate.

·          The Mountainland Association of Governments is invited to appoint one representative to support coordination in planning with the Provo-Orem Area.

 

Each of the members appointed by the WFRC, the County Councils of Governments, the Utah Transportation Commission, the UTA Board of Trustees, and the Utah Air Quality Board, or their alternate members in the members absence, except staff representatives, shall be voting members.

 

The Federal Highway Administration Division Administrator and the representatives appointed by UDOT, UTA, and the Mountainland Association of Governments are non-voting representatives.

Meetings:

Trans Com generally meets eight to nine times per year on the second Thursday of the month at 2:00 p.m. in the Regional Council offices.  Agendas for the meetings are posted one week before.  An opportunity for public comment is included on all agendas.
