Over the coming years, the Wasatch Front is expected to annually add
a population comparable to the city of Murray, or about 34,000 people.
Growth in our region is largely inevitable; over two-thirds of this population
will come from our children and grandchildren. Our challenge is
to preserve or even enhance quality of life in the face of growth.
We create the future with decisions we make today. As we look to the
year 2040, what is the quality of life that we can pass on to future generations?
Wasatch Choices 2040 aims to answer the question: “What is
the future we want to create?” with actions we can take today to bring
about that future. The city and county governments of Davis, Salt Lake,
Utah, and Weber Counties co-sponsored Wasatch Choices 2040 to explore potential futures relative to growth
patterns, transportation solutions, and the environment. By understanding
the needs of the future, we can work backward to the decisions
we need to make today. That is, we begin with the end in mind.
Purpose
The purpose of this presentation is to provide visual examples of various communities, developments, buildings, and elements of urban and environmental planning that illustrate the growth principles and strategies included in Wasatch Choices 2040. These visual examples are intended to assist citizen planners with implementing the Wasatch Choices 2040 growth principles and creating a vision for the future of their communities.
